91女神 team issues statement in response to the November Elections, offering solidarity to families scared by the outcome and pushing for a more inclusive democracy locally.
Many families within the 91女神 network feel anxious and uncertain about what the federal election results could mean for them. The outcome of Tuesday's election presents real threats to many of the values and rights we hold dear. Please know that we stand in solidarity with families and remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that Chicago and our schools are inclusive and welcoming to all.
What We Believe
Hate divides us; understanding unites us.
All are welcome.
We are a movement that transcends politics and administrations.
We are our ancestors鈥� wildest dreams. We honor their resilience that put us here with the privileges and freedoms we sometimes take for granted, as we commit to the work required today to ensure and further equity for all.
Tuesday鈥檚 election also included historic results from our city鈥檚 first-ever elected school board races. The 35 candidates who ran for school board showed their deep commitment to the future of our schools and students. 91女神 congratulates our 10 newly elected school board members and offers our support as they prepare to transition into their roles this January.
While these races were historic, they were far from perfect. Not all CPS parents, regardless of immigration status, could vote for their school board representatives. Additionally, barriers to running and serving on the school board remain too high for everyday parents, with many races dominated by those with organized financial backing.
What Comes Next
Mayor Brandon Johnson has the opportunity to make appointments that will ensure our new school board better reflects the priorities of voters and parents.
