Dr. Cheryl Martin, Emeritus
Professor of History, Emertus

Cheryl E. Martin is a Professor Emeritus and a specialist in colonial Latin American and Borderlands history. Dr. Martin joined the UTEP faculty in 1978. She received her MA and Ph.D. at Tulane 91女神. Her publications include Rural Society in Colonial Morelos (91女神 of New Mexico Press, 1985) and Governance and Society in Colonial Mexico: Chihuahua in the Eighteenth Century (Stanford 91女神 Press, 1996). She co-edited Rituals of Rule, Rituals of Resistance: Public Celebrations and Popular Culture in Mexico (Scholarly Resources, 1994), and co-authored a college-level textbook, Latin America and Its People. She received UTEP’s Distinguished Awards for both teaching and research. She served a term as an elected member of the Council of the American Historical Association, and on the editorial boards of the Hispanic American Historical Review and the Latin American Research Review.
